The Great Gallery in the Reggia di Venaria embraces contemporary art with the exhibition The Carousel, an installation by artist Valerio Berruti.
The Carousel is a sculpture with a diameter of 7 metres that draws inspiration from ancient carousels, which the artist himself shaped.
Instead of horses, the installation consists of birds, the symbols of everyday life and freedom, next to the protagonists who are ready to take flight.
The Carousel is the symbol of the film project with the same name by Valerio Berruti, made up of about 3,000 freehand drawings merged in sequence to form the frames of a film. Co-produced by Sky Arte and featuring a soundtrack specially composed by Ludovico Einaudi, the animated short was first previewed last year at the MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts on the occasion of the Rome Film Fest.
The sculpture is exhibited to the public in the fairy-tale setting of the Reggia, so that everyone can admire it and listen to the soundtrack composed by Ludovico Einaudi through a mechanical music box.
Together with the great participatory work and the animated short film, some frames that make up the video animation are exhibited.
The work is included in the tour of the Piano Nobile of the Reggia.
Curated by Guido Curto.
The exhibition was made possible thanks to the sponsor Lavazza.
The short film, produced by Valerio Berruti and Sky Arte, is supported by Film Commission Torino Piemonte – Short Film Fund.
The entrance fee is included in the tour of the Piano Nobile of the Reggia.
